SIGNING OF MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING MEMORANDUM AT THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
Based on the practical protocol “About the cooperation of the Ministries of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and Syrian Arab Republic from 2008 to 2010” the Syrian Cultural Days held in Armenia from June 29 to July 4, 2009 were successful.
The official delegation headed by the Syrian Minister of Culture, Doctor Riad Na’asan al-Agha arrived in Yerevan to partake in the cultural days met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the president of the National Assembly, Pan-Armenian Catholicos Garegin B, the Ministers of Culture and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The Syrian delegation visited Matenadaran, different Museums in Yerevan and historical places.

PAINTINGS REGISTERED IN THE MUSEUM FUND WERE FOUND
Associates of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and Armenian National Art Gallery found out that two paintings presented from the collections of individuals during the exhibition organized at the Gallery which was dedicated to Khachatur Yesayan’s 100th anniversary are registered in the Museum Fund of the Armenian Republic. During Soviet years paintings were handed to different organization to be hidden. Legal bodies were informed about the details of the above mentioned fact.

MINISTER OF CULTURE WILL PAY A VISIT TO SLOVAKIA
By the invitation of the Slovakian Minister of Culture M. Madyarich Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Hasmik Poghosyan will pay a visit to Bratislava from July 2-5, 2009. During the visit sides will discuss issues related to Armenian-Slovakian cultural cooperation. Mrs. Poghosyan will also take part in folklore festival to be held in Vikhodna in which Armenia will be represented by “Shoghakn” folk ensemble.
The following activities are going to be implemented within the Armenian-Slovakian cultural cooperation in 2009:

CULTURAL DAYS OF SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC IN THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
Cultural Days of Syrian Arab Republic are held from June 28 to July 5, 2009 in Yerevan and the regions of the Republic of Armenia. The official delegation arrived from Syria is headed by the Syrian Minister of Culture Riyad Na'san al-Agha. The delegation of the Syrian Minister consisted of Deputy Minister Muhamad Turki al-Sayed, director of Syrian archeological sciences and museums Bassam Jamus, coordinator of cultural days Nazih Huri, conductor of Syrian National Philharmonic Orchestra Misak Paghputaryan.
The bilateral cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Armenia were officially established on March 30, 1992 with the signing of an agreement titled, “About the Cultural Cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Armenia”.

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS DEDICATED TO KOMITAS’ 140TH ANNIVERSARY
The “Support for Cultural Education” foundation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia which has been actively providing specialized support to both the teachers and the pupils of musical, fine arts and dance art schools of the regions since 2008 (periodically highly qualified teachers/ methodologists travel to regions, master and retraining classes are being held by the professors/ lecturers of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory) displayed new initiative.
In May the foundation held several auditions, concerts in the regions which were geared towards the development and promotion of cultural life in the regions. The concerts summarized the specialty support provided to the children during the year. Festivals dedicated to Komitas’ 140th anniversary were organized Kotayk, Syuniq, Aragatsotn and Yerevan.

DR., PROFESSOR OF THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN NAPLES FRANCESCO GALLO VISITED THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
One of the leading art critics of Italy Dr., Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples Francesco Gallo met with the Minister H. Poghosyan by the invitation of whom he arrived in Yerevan. The purpose of Dr. Francesco Gallo’s visit is to get to know the heritage of Minas Avetisyan lingering at the Armenian National Art Gallery, Jajur’s Museum, and private collections. Dr., Professor Francesco Gallo mentioned that more than 100 works of the famous artist will be exposed in such Italian cities as Roma, Naples, Venice, and Florence during the year of 2010. He confidently believes that if one national is not able to represent its present than the past becomes powerless.

SECOND REPUBLICAN “ART OF BOOK” COMPETITION
Prize giving ceremony of “Art of Book” Second Republican competition announced by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia took place. The competition is organized in order to increase the quality of publications, develop and improve the art of book. It is also geared towards the stimulation of publishers’ cooperation and rivalry, the agitation of the best publishing technologies, and the dissemination of national cultural and spiritual values. The prize giving ceremony was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Armenian typing.

ATTENTION TOWARD THE LIBRARIES AND THE READERS
The second meeting of the state Preparatory Commission on the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the introduction of printing in Armenia presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sarsgsyan took place today at the Khnko Aper National Children’s Library.
In his opening remarks the President of Armenian said in particular, “The fact that the second meeting of the state Preparatory Commission on the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the introduction of printing in Armenia is taking place at the Khnko Aper National Children’s Library is of course not accidental. It was meant to underscore two points: First, attention toward children’s literature and its fans, and second, attention toward the libraries and the readers.

A TRIBUTE OF HONOR TO KOMITAS
On June 21, 2009 starting from 12:00 pm in the Capital Yerevan’s different streets and places were held multi-genre music concerts dedicated to the “Holiday of Music” – classical, band, jazz, rock, and electronic music was played everywhere.
In these series as the main event of the Holiday a concert dedicated to Komitas’ 140th anniversary titled, “A Tribute of Honor to Komitas” was held at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory alley/ park near the monument of Komitas. The concert was organized and held by the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and in cooperation with the Embassy of France in Armenia (Komitas’ biography is closely related to France).

JUNE 21 –HOLIDAY OF MUSIC
On June 21, 2009 the Embassy of France in Armenia and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia organize event titled, “Holiday of Music” to be held Yerevan and the Regions of the Republic. Open-air, live performance and multi-genre event will be uniquely accompanied by concert program dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the Great Armenian composer Komitas.
“Holiday of Music” event which brings together professional and non-professional performers of the music art sphere as well as the public started on June 21, 1982 by the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of France. Today it is well-known and spread all over the world by uniting more than 110 countries and 340 cities for this idea.

“I AND THE SPACE” YOUTH PAINTING EXHIBITION/ COMPETITION
The International Year of Astronomy 2009 is a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery. Within the year’s framework by the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Republican Youth Painting Exhibition/ Competition titled, “I and the Space” was held at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory on June 19, 2009.

"В ад и обрато" գրքի շնորհանդեսը Հայաստանի ազգային գրադարանում
Ս. թ. հունիսի 19-ին Հայաստանում Կալինինգրադի մարզի բիզնես-ֆորումի շրջանակներում Հայաստանի ազգային գրադարանում տեղի ունեցավ Կալինինգրադի հայ համայնքի նախաձեռնությամբ և աջակցությամբ տպագրված Յ. Իվանովի "В ад и обратно" գրքի շնորհանդեսը, որին ներկա էին Հայաստանի գրադարնների և մաս¬նավորապես աղետի գոտու գրադարանների տնօրենները: Գիրքը նվիրված էր 1988 թ. երկրաշարժի զոհերի հիշատակին: Շնորհանդեսից հետո գիրքը նվիրատվության կարգով փոխանցվել է Հայաստանի գրադարաններին:

WORKING CONSULTATION ON MUSEUM RELATED ISSUES
Working consultation on museum related issues took place at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia headed by the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan.
All of the Yerevan museums’ directors participated in the meeting. The discussions went in three main directions. The first discussion was about issues related to the programs of museums as well as the services offered to the public. The second one was about the ticket policy implemented in the museums – formation of ticket tariffs. The third issue was related to the organization of the working hours of the museums. The result of the above mentioned discussion of the issue was that the participants came to a final solution according to which museums’ permanent presentation working hours for the visitors are from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm from July 7 through October 1, 2009.
The decisions about the first two issues will be made and formulated during the upcoming consultation/ meeting.

MINISTER OF CULTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA RECEIVED
Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia met with Leili Moshibi-Jilani, the UNICEF representative in Armenia. The Minister signified and greeted the activities implemented by UNICEF in the Republic of Armenia in the spheres of children’s protection, health, and children’s rights protection and expressed her willingness to cooperate with the United Nations Children’s Fund in the sphere of culture. Minister Poghosyan presented several children’s projects implemented by the department involving public organizations. The above listed activities witness the Government’s permanent attention on the different issues of children and youth and the formation of their aesthetical and spiritual harmony. Minister Hasmik Poghosyan also referred to the projects of the Ministry and arts educational works done by “Children’s Creativity Special Centre” the State Non-trading Organization and “Creativity Centre for Under-aged Law Violators” which are implemented for disabled, orphan, socially unsafe children and projects geared towards the creative development of children currently in the prison. Minister Poghosyan suggested uniting the efforts and implement joint projects for those children also.

AXEL BAKUNTS – 110
Axel (Aksel) Bakunts was an Armenian prose writer, film-writer, translator and public activist. Today is the famous Armenian prose writer’s 110th anniversary. “He only lived 38 years and now is watching the continuance of his eternal life through those 38 years. A whole nation watches that life, nation that celebrates one of its exclusive sons’ consecutive jubilees”. With these words begins the volumetric work titled, “Axel Bakunts. Life and Creations” authored by literary critic David Gasparyan. The book is dedicated to Axel Bakunts’ 110th anniversary. And indeed on June 13 in Syuniq province a whole nation was celebrating its son’s birthday and was bowing before the heritage left by the “Light Talent of Dark Canyons”.
