PAATA BURCHULADZE’S SOLO CONCERT AT ARAM KHACHATURYAN CONCERT HALL
P. Burchuladze was born in Georgia in 1955. Under the guidance of Olimpi Khelashvili he received vocal education in Tbilisi’s conservatory. He had been Tbilisi’s Opera Theatre’s vocalist from 1986. P. Burchuladze with several singers of the Soviet Union participated in Julietta Simonato’s and Eduardo Myuller’s master classes at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
In 1981 has won Buseto’s (Italy) Voci Verdiane competition, and is a first prize-winner of “Tchaikovsky” (1982) and “Luciano Pavarotti International” (1985) competitions.

A DIGITAL COMMUNICATION FRANCOPHONE CENTRE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED IN YEREVAN
The opening ceremony of the Digital Communication Francophone Centre has taken place on October 30, 2008 at the Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov. The centre belongs to the Association of Francophone Universities and operates in 42 countries of the world including Armenia.

INTERNATIONAL BOOK EXHIBITION-FAIR IN FRANKFURT ON MAYNE
Frankfurt on Mayne Book’s 60th exhibition-fair took place from October 15-19, 2008. The Armenian publishing in its full conception was represented by the Ministry of Cultrue of Armenia with publishing houses such as “Association of Armenian Publishers,” “Antares,” “Zangak-97,” “Edit Print” and “Art Bridge” bookstore.
By the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Armenia the Armenian stage on the fair was not 8 square meters as it was in the past; the stage was much bigger and reached up to 20 square meters this year. The larger size of the allocated stage allowed a better and complete representation of the books published in Armenia during the last years.

COMPETITION NAMED AFTER KAREN KOSTANYAN
Competition named after meritorious artist, professor Karen Kostanyan started on October 28, 2008 at 13:00 o’clock in Aram Khachaturyan museum-house. The competition was followed by the presentation of a book dedicated to K. Kostanyan. The participants of the competition shared with their memories of K. Kostanyan.
The ceremony was conducted by musician, Professor Armen Boudaghyan. The above mentioned competition was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

RECEPTION AT THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
“Rolan Bekov’s” fund, the Armenian foundation of the film and television development for children and youth with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia organized the Fourth Festival of Junior Films which was held from October 16-20, 2008. The event was followed by the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Armenian animation.

THE MINISTER RECEIVED JAPANESE GUESTS
The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia hosted the representatives of public organization Koma Idaki Shin and Keiko Koma on October 17, 2008.
Koma strives to spread the peace all over the world. In 1994 Koma organized various concerts geared towards the peaceful life. Around 106 concerts and events were organized in Japan, the USA, Korea, Greece, Iran, Syria, Bulgaria, China and elsewhere from 1994 – 2007.
H.E. Minister greatly valued the visit of the delegation from the aspect of maintenance and protection of the cultural diversity, by noting that it is closely related to the Ministry’s tenets.

EKATERINA ROJDESTVENSKAYA’S COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHICAL IDEAS IS IN YEREVAN
The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the Centre of Exhibitions POAK presented Ekaterina Rojdestvenkaya’s individual exhibition titled, “Private Collection”. The collection was showcased to the public today at the Gallery of the Union of Painters and will be open till November 3, 2008.
Ekaterina Rojdestvenkaya was born on July 17, 1957 in Moscow. She has graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. E. Rojdestvenkaya is an author of fiction translations (G. Steinbeck, John le Karee, Sidney Sheldon, Somerset Moem and others).

FOURTH PUPPET-THEATRE REPUBLICAN FESTIVAL WAS HELD IN THE REGION OF LORI
On October 12, 2008 at 12:00 o’clock the associates of the Lori marzpetaran, Vanadzor Municipality and the organizers of the fourth Puppet-Theatre Republican Festival greeted all the participant-theatres with dancing and singing near the Russian-Armenian Amity monument which symbolizes the entrance of Vanadzor.
The opening ceremony of the festival started in the yard of the newly-erected St. Griqor Lusavorich Church.

“THEATRICAL LORI - 2008”
The opening ceremony of 19th festival “Theatrical Lori” was held on October 13, 2008 at 14:00 PM at the Alaverdi’s Art House.
R. Abrahamyan, the leading specialist of the modern art and folklore crafts agency within the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia presented the Minister’s greetings to the participants of the festival. A. Nalbandyan, the Mayor of Vanadzor, artists and cultural figures also welcomed the participants of the 19th festival “Theatrical Lori.”

MEETING WITH MARY JOVANOVICH, THE US AMBASSADOR TO ARMENIA
The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Hasmik Poghosyan met with Mary Jovanovich, the US Ambassador to Armenia. The Minister congratulated Mary Jovanovich on her appointment as the US Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia. During the conversation, the Minister noted that the Armenian community had a great impact on the development of the cooperation bond between Armenia and the USA, though recently thanks to the efforts of the Embassy there is a significant change in the relationship. The Minister H. Poghosyan thanked the Ambassador for the assistance provided during the events organized on William Saroyan’s 100th anniversary (the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra’s, Ensemble “Shoghakn” concerts in the USA, the visit of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia to the US, the film “Bitlistsi William Saroyan” shoot by “Hayk” film studio, the organization of a conference in Armenia titled, “William Saroyan; Global Literature and National Identity”).

SERIES OF CONCERTS DEDICATED TO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARMENIAN MUSICAL COMPANY
At the press conference organized at the Ministry of Culture of Armenia on October 10 beginning from 1996 till present the president of the AMC Professor David Ghazaryan briefed on the history of the company and then presented the series of concerts devoted to the 50th anniversary.
The following events will take place at the Choir Art House of the Armenian Musical Company; on October 16 – folk, October 23 – classical, and on the 28th Choir art. The concert series will terminate on October 30 with an anniversary evening.
During the whole series of concerts an exhibition titled, “Company’s History“ at the Armenian Musical Company’s Choir Art House ballroom.

THE SECOND ARCAKH FESTIVAL OF CLASSICAL MUSIC WILL BE LAUNCHED
“The Second Arcakh Festival of Classical Music” with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia will be launched on October 14, 2008
For this purpose the director of the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra Armen Arabyan informed that the festival will start on October 14 with the joint concert of Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra (Aram Gharabekyan, creative director) and Arcakh State Philharmonic Orchestra (Gevorg Mouradyan, creative director) at the Stepanakert’s Chamber of Youth.

THE EXHIBITION “CLOSE TO HOME”
By the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia and the British Council a photography exhibition titled “Close to Home” was presented at the Innovation and Experimental Arts Centre. At the solemn ceremony were present Charles Lons Dale, the British Ambassador to Armenia, Gabriela Bataini-Dragoni, the head of division of education, culture and heritage, sports and youth affairs of the European Council, David Mouradyan, the deputy minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and other high-ranked representatives.
“Close to Home” photography roving exhibition was firstly presented in May, 2008 in Belfast. It was also presented in Bulgaria and now it has reached Armenia.

A REPORT ABOUT THE ARMENIAN CULTURAL POLICY WAS PRESENTED
A report was presented about the Armenian Cultural Policy within the European Union’s project “Compendium” on October 9, 2008.
According to the regulations of the project the report was made by an independent expert who was in fact the actual presenter of it. The EU official highly evaluated the active participation of Armenia in the project by noting that within the framework of “Compendium” taking into consideration the amount of work implemented during the last year the cooperation with Armenia is on an excellent level.
